Introduction to Mind Training

Athens KTC Spring Retreat Day on May 1

Lama Kathy Wesley, of Columbus KTC gave a day-long teaching here in Athens for our May 1st Spring Retreat Day. Lama Kathy presented an overview of the Seven Points of Mind Training and gave the reading transmission for the Mind Training slogans.

With plenty of opportunities for use to ask questions, this talk gave a very helpful overview of Lojong, and a sense of what a practical guide to living this study is.

In the course of the talk, Lama Kathy recommended several titles for additional study. Here they are:

The first recommendation is not a printed book but is downloadable for free from the Very Venerable Thrangu Rinpoche’s website.

This event was at the home of Danny Yahini and Patty Mercer, just outside Athens. There were fourteen of us attending, and we enjoyed a fantastic lunch as well! Thank you to the volunteers that made this such a success!

Friday evening before: Q&A with Lama Kathy
On the evening before the retreat, we had coffee and dessert with Lama Kathy at Danny Yahini’s house, with an informal chance to ask questions on any aspect of dharma. This is the second time we’ve arranged such a Q&A as a sangha event, and it seems like a good format for us!

About our center
We meet at 37 Ohio Street, in the building of the Factory Street Dance Studio — a converted church with a very nice atmosphere (map).

We meditate at 10 a.m. every Sunday. At 11 a.m. we break for coffee, snack and visiting. At 11:30, we have a group study time: reading and discusing a book together, or listening to a dharma teaching. Several times a year we have a visiting teacher come to talk.

There is no charge to join us in meditation, and a free introduction to meditation is always available. We hope you’ll stop in!
